Cloud Operations Manager

United States
Full Time

The Role

Nymbl is seeking a Cloud Operations Manager to oversee the day-to-day operation, reliability, and security of the cloud infrastructure that powers our custom software solutions. This role owns the overall health and performance of our cloud environments across AWS and Azure, ensuring high availability, strong security posture, and cost-efficient resource management for clients ranging from small businesses to enterprise organizations.

As the leader of our cloud operations team, you will manage and mentor a group of cloud and infrastructure engineers, set operational standards and best practices, own the processes that keep client environments stable, secure, and performant, and embrace the use of AI to support team and client success. You will be responsible for meeting service-level commitments, leading incident and risk management, coordinating system upgrades and deployments, and continuously optimizing cloud spend. Working closely with Sales, Delivery, and client-facing teams, you will align cloud operations with broader business and client objectives, and stay ahead of emerging cloud technologies to keep Nymbl's infrastructure practices current.

What You'll Do

Infrastructure Reliability & Architecture

  • Define and maintain cloud architecture standards across client environments on AWS and Azure, ensuring solutions are scalable, resilient, and appropriately sized for clients from small business to enterprise.
  • Establish monitoring, alerting, and incident-response processes, supported by AI, that protect uptime and minimize client-facing disruption.
  • Own infrastructure-as-code practices and deployment reliability to make environments consistent and repeatable.

Security & Compliance Oversight

  • Lead cloud security posture across all client environments, including access controls, configuration standards, and proactive vulnerability management.
  • Establish and own a penetration-testing cadence and remediation workflow, partnering with external security firms where appropriate.
  • Build AI supported processes that prevent misconfiguration risks (for example, improperly exposed databases) and ensure environments meet client and regulatory compliance requirements.

Cost & Resource Stewardship

  • Own predictable, transparent cloud cost management — forecasting, optimizing spend, and building a clear, repeatable quoting process for client infrastructure (e.g., AWS pricing).
  • Tie infrastructure usage back to client engagements to support accurate burn and utilization tracking.

Team Leadership & Function Building

  • Define the standards, processes, and operating model for the cloud operations function from the ground up.
  • Mentor and develop team members, set performance expectations, and establish on-call and escalation structures.
  • Partner with Sales, Delivery, and client-facing teams to align infrastructure work with business and client priorities.

What We're Looking For

Must-haves

  • 5-8 years of experience in Cloud Operations or similar roles, experience managing a team is a plus
  • Significant hands-on experience designing and managing cloud infrastructure on AWS and Azure, including architecture (not solely support or administration).
  • Demonstrated expertise in cloud security: access management, vulnerability management, and remediation.
  • Experience managing cloud cost and capacity in a multi-environment or multi-client setting.
  • People-management experience, or clear readiness and appetite to build and lead a team.
  • Strong process orientation — you create structure where none exists and document it for others to follow.

Preferred

  • Experience in a consulting, agency, or managed-services environment supporting multiple distinct client accounts.
  • Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tooling (e.g., Terraform, CloudFormation) and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Relevant certifications in Azure, AWS, Cloud Operations
  • Experience scaling a function from an individual contributor footprint into a managed team or department.
