We’re seeking a Senior Retool Developer with solution architecture experience to lead the design, development, and implementation of client-facing projects using Retool. In this role, you will work directly with our clients to understand their business needs and deliver powerful, scalable internal tools that improve operations and decision-making.
As a senior contributor, you will take ownership of Retool-based engagements from end to end — gathering requirements, designing system architecture, building custom tools, managing integrations, and delivering high-quality solutions. This is a dynamic, client-facing role that requires both technical expertise and excellent communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and deliver custom internal tools using Retool software for client organizations across various industries.
- Serve as the primary technical lead on Retool projects, working closely with client stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Architect scalable tool ecosystems that integrate with client data sources (e.g., PostgreSQL, MongoDB, REST/GraphQL APIs, third-party platforms).
- Lead project discovery, technical scoping, sprint planning, and implementation phases in coordination with project managers and cross-functional teams.
- Ensure secure, maintainable, and performant Retool applications, including proper role-based access and environment setup.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior developers or client teams adopting Retool.
- Collaborate with design and UX resources to ensure tools are intuitive, impactful, and aligned with business goals.
- Communicate technical decisions and project updates clearly and confidently to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Required Qualifications
- 4+ years of experience in software or internal tool development, with at least 2 years of hands-on experience building solutions in Retool.
- Proven success managing full project lifecycles for internal tool development — ideally in a client services or consulting environment.
- Strong architecture skills and experience designing complex systems with multiple data integrations.
- Expert-level proficiency in SQL and experience working with RESTful and GraphQL APIs.
- Familiarity with front-end development principles (JavaScript, JSON, UI logic, conditional workflows).
- Experience working in a client-facing capacity with the ability to manage timelines, expectations, and communication effectively.
- Strong problem-solving, debugging, and solution design skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience as a Solution Architect or Technical Lead in a consulting or professional services firm.
- Experience working across multiple client projects simultaneously.
- Familiarity with low-code/no-code integration tools (e.g., Zapier, Make, Airtable, Firebase).
- Experience with security and compliance considerations for client-facing applications.
- Ability to coach clients or team members in Retool best practices.
